Robert Goldsmith

A true artist who demonstrates an exceptional and sensitive use of the demanding medium of watercolour.

Robert Goldsmith is a dedicated artist who specialises in the creation of fine watercolour paintings. Based in Cheltenham, Robert Goldsmith has been a professional artist and illustrator since 1980.

As a fine artist who handles a wide range of subject matter with great skill and sensitivity, Robert’s watercolours are highly sought after and have been the subject of many exhibitions, primarily with  The Burlington Gallery, Cheltenham. His ability to capture the subtle effects of light and shade, of water and reflections, is particularly evident in his work.

After his art foundation course, Robert studied graphic design at Brighton Polytechnic, graduating in 1980 with a BA (hons). From then on his talent allowed him to work as a freelance illustrator and artist, with an extensive client list. He designed stamps for the G.P.O., worked with Unicover Corporation USA (First Day Cover designs, including the 1984 Olympics), and produced book illustrations and covers for Oxford University Press, Transworld, Harper Collins and Orion.

Robert’s artwork has been used by corporate on gift vouchers, and greetings card publishers to employ him include Paper House, Medici, Athena and Accord. Alongside all this, Robert took on various advertising work, agency jobs and magazine projects, This England and Cotswold Life, to name two.

In addition to his local exhibitions, Robert’s work has been displayed at the Mall Galleries in London and the Coach House Gallery in Guernsey. Robert Goldsmith is a member of the Fosseway Artists and Dobunni artists’ group, and has work permantently on display with Burlington Contemporary Art, in Montpellier, Cheltenham.
